As a former student of Richard Purvis, who knew Michael during the period when he recorded this, I can tell you that he at his peak, had very few peers who could play with the authority and accuracy, with which he played. And the remarkable thing, is that he was literally a jukebox, and his ability to recall full sections of extremely complex pieces, and play them perfectly with real-time recital-level accuracy, was really just stunning. The Dupre symphony is quite simply one of the greatest works ever conceived. It actually beats out the Saint-Saens Organ Symphony, in my opinion. The Finale just gives me goose bumps. I actually met Michael Murray when I was a teenager working in a Blockbuster Video store. He was a quiet, unassuming man with a gentle face. The authority with which he performs this work is all the more astounding for that. What a great artist. A true Maestro.

From stem to stern, one of the FINEST, most well-conceived lp's I have EVER lain ears on. I OWN A METRIC TONNE of physical music to the tune of nearly 20,000 cd's. Honestly, "The Spin" is perhaps my favorite lp of all time...Actually, YES it is, with Skinny Puppy's "Mind:tPI in a photo finish. Yeah, I know, a little disparity there with genre. Aaaah. Both stellar Canadian outfits with some familiarity with one another. Or a little more familiarity than some would be privy of... All 👍 Enjoy this NECTAR! BAAAAH!

During the 19th Century, Edwin Lemare, 1865 - 1934 and William Thomas Best 1826 - 1897 were two celebrated freelance organists who travelled abroad to concertise. It would be of great academic interest to know how these two gentlemen played compared with Virgil Fox's style several generations later.

Odds are Mr Fox influenced Rick Wakeman (Vangelis in addition?)

Would be nice to have a set list.

The mark of a musician who truly understands the soul of the organ is one who understands how to work with the resonance of his space... too many organists continue to play at a rhythm without respect for the resonance of a room. The following echo and silence are part of the performance as a brilliant fanfare. Without silence, the fanfare just becomes noise¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Approximately 33 years have passed since I got this CD. I still get dopamine kicks from it.

This is a well-nigh perfect blend of superb artistry from Meister Preston, a large and magnificent organ well matched to the resounding acoustic and a team of recording engineers who fully understood the "tricks of the trade".

We experience the woeful imperfection of this world, this purgatorial "Valley of Tears," every single day of our lives. Reasonably bright fellows like Jean-Paul Satre and his confréres claimed that they believed in Nothing ("No-Thing" - which is impossible) - the only alternative to which is belief (or Belief) in something or (SomeThing). This Music is as close to Musical Perfection as we can hope to come in this life, therefore let us immerse ourselves in it with the kind of Joyfully Stupefying Abandon that children have when splashing about in Ocean Waves, where Questions of "Belief" or "Disbelief" never arise. Thank you, dear Lord, for giving us Johann Sebastian Bach, Reverendo Don Antonio Vivaldi and all of the others who were blessed by the Holy Spirit in a Way of that would enable them to give us a foretaste of what we will hope to hear for all Eternity. "Absurd," you say? Compared to what?

Having bought the original 1977 LP's originally recorded on Crystal Clear direct-to-disc, I found out most if not all of these pieces were outakes from those recording sessions and not the same as the first-released vinyl. Franck's Piece Heroique was my favorite recording of the piece, and phrasing and pauses are way different. These are reportedly alternate performances that they were able to put directly on tape next to the DTD versions, which wound up on CD.

I was enjoying this when it was out I knew so few people who knew these two songs. I was very happy when it was reissued. Yes I recall the first two years of 98X that was nice.

Many have tried, but no one has ever wrung more emotion out of Fox's 'Come Sweet Death.' Maybe more than Bach ever intended.

Such a great song. Reminds me of summer nights in the early 90’s going out with my friends, smoking, drinking, having a good ole time. Going to Canada before we were 21. Best of times.

Anyone still listening to this greatness in 2023, like I am? Aaaaah the old 89x days on Sunday nights in the summer. -the best!

I also found them because of 89X! Girl of Colours got quite a bit of airplay when I was younger, and I ended up buying the CD when it was still reasonably priced in the early 2000s. I think I still have it. I hope so. They were so underrated! So nice to see fellow Detroiters here appreciating this amazing band.

Leave it to TELARC! I latched onto this recording label when I bought my first CD player back in 1986. Started out with a sampler, and then I was HOOKED! Library of Telarc recordings now over 140 CD's I also wrote the company back in the day letting them know how pleased I was with their 'sound' and microphone scheme. And so, a personal letter from Robert Wood showed in my mail box. The Telarc logo is raised on the envelope as well as the letter head. It was TYPED from a type writer, NOT computer print, and hand signed. A keep sake for sure! Also in the collection are a COMPLETE set of their news letters called 'Quarter Notes'. I won't part with them anytime soon. (O:

Geez I miss this album. One of the best of that decade and one of my favorites. The CD is going for $75 on Amazon so I'm glad I found this to get my 24 Fix. Thank you for posting!
